A Train Journey Plus a Walk from the Settle - Casrlisle Line. The Carlisle to Settle line which runs along the Eden Valley is a great success story and there is much documented elsewhere about the great feats of engineering displayed in its construction as well as the energetic campaign to halt it's closure. It has now developed into a strategic goods and passenger route. Friends of the Settle to Carlisle Line organise walks - led by volunteers - who make use of and enjoy the great variation of terrain along the line. All the walks are listed on the Friends of the Carlisle to Settle Line Website. A Great Day Out. The railway runs along the edge of the River Eden between Great Salkeld & Little Salkeld.
